Sequence of visits

HELLO! We are looking forward to meeting you at your upcoming visit to our office and we thank you for choosing our office. Dr. McWade is a fully qualified orthodontist and he has been practicing in Kanata since 1985.

Good comunication between the patient and parents is an important part of obtaining a good treatment result. You are encouraged to ask questions of Dr. McWade and his staff at any time. We hope the following outline will give you a better idea of what to expect before actually starting your treatment.

First Visit

On arriving at the office you will be greeted by one of our receptionists, either Deborah or Laraine. They will welcome you and show you our Sign in Area where we ask you to sign in at each visit. This way we will know who has arrived and won't miss anyone. A medical and dental questionnaire will then be filled out before Dr. McWade sees you. He will perform a thorough clinical examination and discuss his findings with you and make recomendations regarding any orthodontic treatment that may be required. The approximate cost of treatment will also be outlined at this time.

The cost of this examination and consultation is $75.00 and payment is due at the time of the visit. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Interac, cash or personal cheque.

Our financial secretary, Laraine, will then review with you the treatment fee and arrange the terms of payment which are usually spread out over the course of the treatment. She can also discuss the procedures to follow if you have orthodontic insurance coverage.

Second Visit (X-rays and Models)

The next step is an appointment to have models of the teeth and an orthodontic x-ray taken. Using these diagnostic records and the results of the clinical examination, Dr. McWade will develop a specific, detailed treatment plan for you and present possible alternative choices.

During this visit the hygienist will take impressions of your teeth to make plaster study models. Two extra-oral X-rays of the teeth and facial structures will be taken along with digital photographs of the face and teeth. All the records are analyzed on the computer by Dr. McWade and he will come up with his final diagnosis and treatment plan.

Within two weeks of this appointment he will send you a letter summarizing his findings and recommendations and a copy will also go to your family dentist. Included with the letter are two copies of the Canadian Association of Orthodontists' Pre-Determination Form with a summary of the diagnosis and fee structure that was previously agreed upon. This should be sent to the insurance company which will notify you of your coverage and entitlement for reimbursement. (See Financial/Insurance page for details)

Subsequent Visits

Regular appointments are necessery to adjust the appliances so the teeth and/or jaws are gradualy aligned. It is very important that these appointments are kept as scheduled so treatment progresses as planned and on time. You should visit us every 4 to 8 weeks and depending on what needs to be done, the length can be from 10 to 90 minutes.

We hope this gives you an idea of what to expect on your first few visits to our office. Your treatment will progress smoothly and quickly when you understand how and why certain things are done. Orthodontic treatment is a team effort and soon you will be on your way to a new smile and improved dental function. We hope the time you spend with us is as enjoyable and efficient as possible. See you SOON!
